7 things to do this weekend
It's not an extremely exciting nor jam-packed weekend, but I bet it'll be the last student-free (or student-reduced) one. Here are some events that might be worth checking out.
Next Monday is the anniversary of Quantrill's Raid, so expect a lot of local exhibits and events to mark the time, including several next weekend at Watkins Museum and several this weekend at the visitors' center.
Red Kate is KC punk. Liquor Buddies is Lawrence rock playing their second-ever show, starting at 9:30 p.m. for a $3 cover. Nick Spacek has more in an interview here.
The Roving Imp improv/game comedy group formerly of Bonner Springs appears to be setting up shop — at least on Friday nights — at the ECM on campus. Their show starts at 8 p.m. and is $5 for students and $10 for others. More info here.
The Spain-based troupe is giving a performance for $10 at the center starting at 8 p.m.
Weird and hopefully wonderful, this lineup includes KC amalgamate Many Moods of Dad (really, Many Members of Other Bands), plus a performance by 13-year-old one-boy-band Drew Smith. Read Nick's story for more info on that interesting project. It starts at 9 p.m. and is $5 for 21+ and $7 for 18+.
The Sandbar is holding its annual block party with music from Blue Orleans. It begins at 6 p.m. (Not 7 p.m., as I erroneously first reported.)
Brooklyn experimenters Normal Love are playing with Grandi Flora and locals Oils. It's Oils' second show in as many days. Starts at 10 p.m.; cover is $5 for 21+ and $7 for 18+.
