Best Bets: Say goodbye to 2013

Looking for someplace to spend the last few hours of 2013, but couldn't get tickets to the sold-out 7 p.m. Split Lip Rayfield show at the Bottleneck? Well, there are plenty of options around Lawrence to party while waiting for the ball to drop.

For instance, the newly-renovated Jackpot will be open for New Year's Eve, so come by around 8 p.m. and they'll provide local Americana funk rock music of The Lonesome Hound Dogs, with openers by Fortnight.

Meanwhile, the Granada will be holding a special New Year's Eve edition of their #ASSJAMZ dance party. Come by around 9 p.m. and shake 2013 out of your system all night long. Cover is $5 at the door.

The Gaslight Gardens' speakeasy party will have you feeling like you fell in a hole in the time-space continuum. Come by in your finest zoot suit or flapper dress and party like it's 1949 for no cover charge.

If rowdy, sweaty hip-hop is more your thing, then the Eighth Street Tap Room will be made available to you beginning at 9 p.m. with DJs Reggie Scott Smith, Maal Maal and Tom Richman of the Lawrence-based institution Team Bear Club providing the appropriate music. Cover is $3.

And the Replay Lounge will have a bizarre mix of new wave, punk and doo-wop beginning at 10 p.m., as Spud Patrol pays tribute to Devo, Stay Sick pays tribute to the Cramps, and Dean Monkey and the Dropouts pay tribute to...umm, Dean Monkey and the Dropouts. Cover charge is $3.
