What to do this weekend
If you know of an event that you think will be a Best Bet, let me know at email@example.com.
The alt-theater group is putting on its annual 10-minute play collection featuring works written and performed by local talent. The nine acts include drama, comedy and even "a quasi-musical farcical retelling of Henry Tudor's rule of England." Doors are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and entrance is $7.
Delightful local alt-country group Olassa is heading up a night of quirky, down-home entertainment with an MC, music performances, appearances by members of local burlesque group Foxy By Proxy, a warm up from Monzie Leo & the Big Sky, a puppeteer (the well-known Paul Santos) and oft-outside-Tellers-or-Henry's juggler Tim Dingus. It starts at 9 p.m. for $5; 18+.
In lieu of a full Taproom Poetry night, the active Lawrence poet Mary Stone Dockery (2011's Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award winner) will read, starting at 6:30 p.m. at 801 New Hampshire St.
