Best Bets: May 6-8
Cinco de Mayo may be over, but the party never stops in this town. Not with Stop Day just around the corner, anyway.
Monday exodus: Zion I @ The Granada
Socially-conscious hip-hop crew Zion I from Oakland are on a Midwest tour after the release of their latest album, "ShadowBoxing," and will make their first-ever stop in Lawrence at the Granada, 1020 Massachusetts St., before hitting the festival circuit (including this year’s Wakarusa Festival). Tuesday flambé: Katchafire @ The Bottleneck
Katchafire are a roots reggae group from New Zealand who started out as a Bob Marley tribute band and have since put out four albums of their own music. Right now they are slowly making their way across the U.S. from Hawaii to the plains, including an all-ages show at the Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire St., this Tuesday, where they’ll be appearing with Hawaiian group Maoli and Kansas City’s own 77 Jefferson. Doors open at 9 p.m.; tickets are $13-$15.
Wednesday circus: The Sideshow Tragedy @ The Jackpot
The blues rock duo The Sideshow Tragedy from Austin, Texas, has been pretty busy in the last year, releasing a new LP and playing shows in the U.S. and Europe. They’ve set off on another tour this week, and they’re coming to the Jackpot Music Hall, 943 Massachusetts St., this Wednesday along with our very own Brody Buster Band. Doors open at 9 p.m.; cost is $5 for 18+ and $7 for 21+.
