Best Bets: Blondes have more fun at the Replay Lounge

PICK ON SOMEONE YOUR OWN SIZE

Bullying isn't restricted to the school playground. It can happen anywhere — at work, in a relationship, by a total stranger on the Internet, even in a nursing home. Join Professor Robert Harrington for a conversation about bullying across a person's lifespan — where it happens, how it happens, and how it can be prevented — Tuesday evening at the Free State Brewing Company's Science on Tap beginning at 7:30. Come for dinner and the discussion, or just for the discussion.

THEY DON'T MEAN TO BLOW THEIR OWN HORN

Introducing the Free State Brass Band, Lawrence's brand new community-based traditional music ensemble and the brain child of artistic director and KU music student Jon Heaver. School of Music professor Scott Watson will conduct the inaugural concert on Tuesday evening, featuring classic British songs like Gustav Holst's "Moorside Suite", R.B. Hall's "Death or Glory March", and many more performed by a collection of Lawrence- and Kansas City-area musicians and music professors and students. The concert will be at Plymouth Congregational Church beginning at 7:30 and is free to the public. Find out more about the Free State Brass Band here.

MUSIC DOWN TO ITS ROOTS

KC native Joshua Allen formed the alt rock band Various Blonde in 2008 with a dark, progressive sound that draws from a multitude of musical influences from the Beatles to Hendrix to Iggy Pop to Radiohead and lots more besides. It's a sound that has had them open for such national acts as Russian Circles, Zechs Marquise and The Electric Six. Hear them for yourself at the Replay Lounge with Rubedo on Tuesday night at the Replay Lounge. The show will start at 10 p.m.
