Best Bets: Colleen, Colleen, Colleen and Colleen appearing at the Bottleneck
GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOM
Are you an artist who'd rather not watch an SEC team win yet another BCS national championship? Well, you're in luck — the Thieves Art Guild presents its first life-drawing event of 2014 Monday night at Fatso's. Model Devi Du'ville will be your rocket girl for a cosmic night of drinking and drawing. The pod bay doors will open at 7 p.m.; just bring $5 and your own art supplies.
The Jazzhaus' Acoustic Open Jam is kicking off the new year Wednesday with a new host — Nicholas St. James is taking the reins of the weekly singer/songwriter night event. Everything else remains the same — it still starts at 10 p.m., the cover is still $2.
Despite what their name would have you think, the members of Colleens are actually men, and their names aren't all "Colleen" — they're an indie rock quartet out of San Antonio, Texas, started in 2012 by musically-raised brothers Josh and Jon Harter. Their debut LP "Wild Dreams" comes out early next month, but if you can't wait that long, they'll be playing with local rockers The Organ Loaners this Wednesday at the Bottleneck. Doors open at 7 p.m., the 18+ show starts at 8.
