A fresh, ribald urban comedy of pie porn enacted, featuring Kansas City actress Amy Kelly, and Lawrence native, actor Chris Roady. Written by Kansas City actress Natalie Liccardello, Pies from the Porn Kitchen is jam-packed with unexpected twists and turns. Featured in LAC’s New Play Development Workshop in 2011, the full production promises more than a few laughs. Play contains nudity.

Kristin Morland will open her home studio and be showing her most recent work including the Kansas State Flag in honor of Kansas Day.

Bio: Kristin Morland is an artist whose primary work is handsewn sequins and beads. But, beyond the medium, Morland's work centers on light and color to tell a story, to connect patterns of behavior, or reflect on nature, sound and experience.

Robert Lambert NYC Artist “I work every day all day, this is my passion. The statement I make you will see on the wall.”

Robert Lambert has been painting since nineteen ninety when he left the world of fine art photography to devote himself full time to his calling. During the last fifteen years he followed his desire to seek out new expressions by working in New York, Paris and Amsterdam. He preferred collectors who bought his work without having it explained. His work currently resides in many significant international collections. In this manner, he has fully supported himself and his pursuit of new expressions. In two thousand and three after a prolonged period in Paris, a new series of oils, constructions and encaustics mixed media, evolved. Lambert returned to New York City where he moved into his studio at the Chelsea Hotel. He continues working on oils and mixed media paintings

January 30 through March 22, Wonder Fair celebrates the Fine Art of Illustration with "In Between," a new series of original drawings by KU professor and industry veteran Barry Fitzgerald.

"In Between," texture and tone form a soft background to a series of vivid black ink drawings: lines curvaceous and sharp, vividly suggesting parables grown from the artist's imagination...but left tantalizingly open to our interpretation.

Before In Between:

Students of our history will recall that Wonder Fair was built with the visual language of Illustration as its cornerstone, under the guidance of 2008 KU Illustration graduate and Wonder Founder Eric Dobbins.

Seven years later, Wonder Fair still champions all forms of art that are accessible but still demonstrate creative and conceptual rigor; promotes artists who possess a certain refreshing optimism that Art and Capital could fairly coexist (but who cannily recognize that they often do not).

And so, it is with great excitement that we exhibit "In Between", a return, of sorts, to our earliest roots.

About the Artist:

Barry Fitzgerald is a multi-disciplinary illustrator, artist and visual communicator who loves the challenge of making images that engage intellectually, emotionally, and aesthetically. He enjoys problem solving and collaborating with others, and is available for commissions.

After a previous career as a graphic designer in Washington, DC, Fitzgerald earned an MFA in illustration at SUNY Buffalo where he studied under Hall of Fame illustrator Alan E. Cober. Upon graduation, he was hired by the Detroit New to work as a staff artist, where he was able to combine his love of graphic design, illustration, and visual communication. Currently, Fitzgerald is a Professor of Illustration at the University of Kansas. He has been teaching illustration, drawing, painting, and conceptual problem solving since 1993.

Barry has received over 100 national and international awards for his work, including American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators of NY, Society of Illustrators of LA, 3X3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly, and Print Magazine. He has also been included in ‘200 Best Illustrators Worldwide’ published by Lürzer’s Archive.

For January’s Final Friday Art Walk, we will feature artists Lisa Doffing and Elizabeth Rowley.

The images expressed in Lisa Doffing’s paintings emerge naturally from the process. She begins by turning up the music, moving to the rhythm, and applies alternating layers to several canvases at once. As the random and rhythmic marks are made, slowly but surely, sometimes over the course of several months, the beginnings of images catch her eye, and she builds on them. The process lends itself to the concept of experiencing complete freedom from expectations while listening to the layers and the process itself. The goals to experience the fluid nature of life, emotion, elements of the natural world—like water, notes, rhythm, beauty, freedom, love, and expression itself—are always fully met. The goal is relaxation and freedom from want. The goal of the paintings is to liberate the mind of the viewer as well on some level.

The landscape for Elizabeth Rowley is both focus and conduit for emotional expression. Working from small to large formats and from realism to abstraction, she creates spaces that are as much about "feeling" the landscape as they are about seeing it. Her landscapes are a collaboration between real landscape and her own emotional response to that landscape. She looks into the natural world, its outer surface and its inner light, its violence and its calm.

Lorel Ranney Hoffmann In 2014, a dear friend had to euthanize her horse. As she described what that entailed, my heart broke for her. I decided I needed to do something to help ease her pain, but what? Though I had not painted in years, I bought a canvas and got to work. Studying the images of this sweet and gentle animal, my painting process became like a meditation on him, on all the work he did, on what her meant to her. When I presented her the portrait of her beloved horse, Buddy, we were both very moved. Art can say what words can’t.
I earned my degree in visual art education at the University of Kansas, in 1995, and my master’s degree in liberal arts from Baker University in 2006. I have been fortunate to teach art in a public school setting for 18 years. While I enjoyed any opportunity to be creative, often my own art making was postponed by the demands of my teaching and family. However, since painting Buddy, my art has become more of a priority. I continue to paint with acrylics in a realistic illustrative style, often favoring bold colorful images. I am inspired by a wide variety of subject matter, from still life, to animal portraits, to landscapes. My art doesn’t have one specific message to communicate. I simply enjoy creating colorful, honest images for their own beautiful sake.

Lawrence Inside Out is a community photography project focusing on Lawrence residents and their connection to creating and supporting the arts. Using black and white portraits, local artist Rachael Perry invites Lawrencians of all ages to share their stories in celebration of our creative community. Participants' images will be printed large-scale, popping up in April throughout Lawrence, including the Percolator! With four hundred portraits and counting, Lawrence Inside Out is gearing up for one more month of portrait sessions. If you would like to join the project, here are three opportunities during the month of January. Portrait sessions are also set up on an individual basis at the Lawrence Creates Makerspace.

Lawrence Inside Out is part of the global Inside Out Project, a participatory art project transforming messages of personal identity into works of art.

With 19 artist studios, a music recording operation and collaborative space/gallery, the potential for creating at all scales is practically limitless. SeedCo is envisioned as a creative factory/laboratory with each of the resident artists bringing their singular artistic identity and prowess to expand and delve deeper into conception and production. Akoteego Dine asdzaan nishli. Hello everyone my name is Seanna Hunter Ben. I am the Red Running Into Water clan born for the Wondering People clan. My maternal Grandmother’s clan is Big Water clan and my paternal Grandfather’s clan is Big Water. In that way I am a Navajo Woman. Born in Chinle, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation, Seanna Hunter Ben graduated from the University of Kansas with her Bachelors of Fine Arts. Through the abstract spray paint poster work she creates an environment that is influenced by graffiti gestural marks and a feel of the environment of her reservation. She created environments that feed to the general notion of growing up on a reservation and finding a sense of beauty still evolving out of such an environment and harsh reality through art, culture and a traditional upbringing. She works with a very colorful saturated palate of spray paint, paint and art pens to create the environment. Her work has been exhibited at the scholarship shows for the University of Kansas. She currently lives in Lawrence, Kansas.
