10 thoughts for the end of the week

Ten thoughts at the end of the week:1. My nephew, Max called me last week -- via my dad's cellphone -- and asked if I would come home and watch "Star Wars" with him. I was delighted; my (nearly) five-year-old nephew and I have the same taste in movies.2. He might be a little young for "The Godfather" though.3. What I'm reading: "McSweeneys Enchanted Chamber of Astonishing Stories," edited by Michael Chabon. A collection of "scary" stories by mostly "literary" authors. Oddly enough, the least creepy story so far was written by Stephen King.4. I joined [Friendster][1] this week, at the invitation of a friend, but I really don't get it. If I really like my friends, can't I just call them or send them an e-mail? 5. Debate of the week: [Was Abraham Lincoln gay?][2] Discuss.6. We're almost there. The shortest day of the year comes up in just a few days -- and then, finally, God willing, the sun will start coming up a little earlier. I really, really hate it when it's dark out at 7 a.m. The worst part of winter.7. Maybe I have Seasonal Affective Disorder, come to think of it. 'Cause I'm feeling grumpy as hell these days.8. Why I don't have a game system at home. Played "Halo" for two hours the other night on a borrowed machine. Couldn't walk away until I irretrievably screwed up a point in the game. My eyes felt swollen afterwards. I am an addict of easy entertainment, and must not be allowed to have an X-Box in my home.9. Is a KU game versus Missouri at Allen Fieldhouse really only [the 40th best sports event][3] in the entire state of Kansas? Does it really rank behind any volleyball game at Kansas State? Or are Wichita Eagle sports reporters ... not that bright?10. Wichita State is undefeated in men's basketball. Isn't time they appeared on KU's schedule? Surely the top 50 sporting events is in no particular order. I've never had the pleasure of seeing Mt. Sunflower, but it's hard to imagine that this would be #1 on the list. Although, it is true that Wichita sports reporters have sub-par intellect.

I don't like Friendster. Dogster, on the other hand, kicks ass.

Wichita State should be on KU schedule. The reason I think they are not is because of a long-standing feud with Roy Williams. But playing the Shockers should be mandatory. But although I am a KU fan, frankly KU is scared to play the Shockers especially in their place. If you have not seen it it's a great facility.

Reminds me of Alabama and Auburn football they refuse to play Troy University even when they were a Division II program. The big boys feel there is nothing good about playing a small (hungry) in state school.
