I think I saw every episode:LOS ANGELES (AP) - Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy first mate Gilligan on the 1960s television show Gilligan's Island, made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died, his agent confirmed Tuesday. He was 70.Denver, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina, according to agent Mike Eisenstadt. Apologies to Dennis Dailey, btw. I was just thinking that his headline would make a good pop-punk song...

The Gilligan line would be the second verse.

Wait...

I think it was a Foo Fighters song.

Marcy McGuffie 17 years, 9 months ago

That's too bad. I'm ashamed to admit this--but I already thought the guy was dead. I guess I deserve to have the "pop culture queen" title stripped...

Joel: Don't quit your day job. I'm not feelin' the song lyrics. Then again, if it becomes a hit, I'll probably be feelin' it in another 20 years or so...

Oops, I'm a lil late in my posting. If the Foo Fighters already covered it... make it 10 years before I'm feelin' the lyrics...

(extra kudos to anyone who gets THAT reference)

Billy Clyde Puckett... Semi Tough.

The book, not the godawful movie. Yuck.

;) You owe me a coffee. Or a beer. I'm not picky.

(he was discussing Lucille Ball with Big Ed Buckman, oilman. They decided there outghta be a list telling what celebrities are alive and which ones are dead)

Yesterday? More like last month (maybe 2 if I remember right). Anyway, no problem. I'd seen that second site before, so I knew there was a "list".

Marcy McGuffie 17 years, 9 months ago

LOL. There SHOULD be a list. Cuz half the time when an old timer passes...I'm like "oh, they were still alive?" Glad I'm not the only one...

Dazie: Look at you trying to extort a beverage from Mathis. If you're going to go for it...definitely go for the beer. Do it right, hon.

Aileen Dingus 17 years, 9 months ago

Oh I'll take whatever Joel wants to give out... ;)

(did that sound sleazy? I shouldn't sound sleazy when posting in a blog about Gilligan's passing. Shame on me)

I always loved how the Howells and Ginger had this amazing amount of STUFF, but everybody else had one outfit each.

Marcy McGuffie 17 years, 9 months ago

Down Dazie. That was a VERY naughty thing to say. Don't make me lecture you. ;) Sheesh, all I was suggesting is you go for the alcoholic beverage in lieu of coffee. And I thought I was the resident perv of da blogs...I guess I got me some competition.

Punkrockmom: Well, you RAWCK!!! This list exists!!!!

Aileen Dingus 17 years, 9 months ago

punkrockmom- you are my hero today. That's GREAT!

Wonder if I'm on it...

OtherJoel 17 years, 9 months ago

Just went on one of punkrockmom's links - Luther Vandross? How'd I miss that one?

Marcy McGuffie 17 years, 9 months ago

OJ, where you been? That's sooo yesterday. ;)

Marcy McGuffie 17 years, 9 months ago

Oh, I didn't mean "yesterday" in the literal sense. I shoulda clarified I was summoning up my best valley girl impression for that line.

Hmmm....guess I better study those lists so I won't be in for any more shockers!

Actually the quote comes from "Life It's Ownself", a semi-funny sequel to Semi-Tough by Dan Jenkins.

And the conversation takes place between Shake-em Up and Big Ed.
