Library rides nostalgia wave with launch of Retro Gaming Club
Ian Stepp remembers visiting his aunt’s house as a kid, where he’d play classic games like Duck Hunt and iterations of the Mario Brothers saga on the family’s trusty old Nintendo Entertainment System. Now pushing 30, Stepp is still a fan of the now-classic video games that in recent years have spawned a thriving culture and industry capitalizing on the nostalgia of grownups who coveted Nintendo game systems as kids in the 1980s and 90s.

He's just a young man who wants his 15 minutes of fame (or more). And he'll probably get it. With "instant" communication capabilities, more and more Wanna-Be-Famous folks are finding ever new and better ways to tap into the minds and lives of others. We either watch or we do. It makes me wonder about the increasing voyeurism in society; we know a lot more about a lot more things, instantly (and incompletely). And no one seems content simply living a normal contented life. Our happiness, success, etc. is measured by comparison to others. That's probably always been the case (competition seems to be hard-wired into humans), but with the internet, our best and worst traits seem to get magnified and over-indulged. I must be getting old. Sigh.
