Back in June, I ran across a [Fark][1] link that was almost too good to be true: the return of the [Jell-0 Pudding Pop][2]. No shit!!! I have spent many an impaired 3 am. in the not-so-distant past wandering various grocers' freezer aisles, searching in vain for this treat from my childhood. So when I read that they had returned, I almost peed myself, then ran out to every grocery store in town. No luck. Damn it all. Throughout this pregnancy, I periodically went on the same quest, all to no avail. I finally got smart and did myself a web search, and found the distributor's store locator site, only to learn the crushing truth--the nearest place I could procure my heart's desire was Ames, Iowa. AMES FREAKIN' IOWA!All I have to say, is, god bless the internet. About a month ago, I had the bright idea to email Hy-Vee via their website, and I begged, entreatied, and all but promised Penelope's immortal soul in return for the favor of stocking this frozen nectar of the gods for the sake of one hormonal, craving-crazed pregnant lady.Today I came home to an answered prayer: Leroy (I'm pretty sure that's what his nametag read), frozen foods manager at Hy-Vee 6th street, had emailed me to let me know they got their first shipment in today. Hallelujah, praise jaysus, and all that jazz!!So now I sit happily slurping on my third chocolate-vanilla swirl crackstick, and all is right with my world. Thank you, Popsicle, thank you, Hy-Vee, and THANK YOU, LEROY!!!!!! Now get your ass out to Hy-Vee and buy some pudding pops so they don't stop stocking them, or suffer my wrath. So help me, I will bring my baby to squall outside your window in the middle of the night if you don't. [1]: http://www.fark.com [2]: http://www.x-entertainment.com/articles/0904/

Not that it makes much differnce, but is that different packaging than the old ones? It didn't used to be a "Popsicle" product did it? Just curious. We were pretty heavy into the pudding pops at my house when I was little as well.

Yeah, Kraft discontinued them and Popsicle picked them up this year. Different packaging, different shape, but they taste the same to me, and yes, they do get that spiffy ice coating just like they used to. Mmmmmmm.

I was going to comment on the ice coating! I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers that so clearly - too bad about the shape, though.

I hope Bill Cosby comes back for Pudding Pop commercials. I'd love to see him with those shades on, telling people they need ice cream novelties to raise their children properly.

Perhaps a nice diatribe about getting them to enunciate "Pudding Pops" clearly ;) Honestly, I like the guy a lot more now that he's started being all controversial.

Dr. Cosby is a hero to me as well. For years, he tried to give Americans (and the world) a picture of what we could achieve through hard work and education, and was kicked in the teeth for being a sell out (BTW, that PhD he has is NOT one he bought or was just given because he's famous - he earned it - in education). The black community is up in arms (I've heard) b/c he's "outed" some dirty laundry. I believe he did so only b/c he became frustrated with the lack of results from his more subtle efforts. SO he's calling them out - stop blaming society and whitey, and start parenting your children in ways that will help them not only survive but thrive in the culture in which they have been born! As for pudding pops - Poor Trey. He never had one to my knowledge! Glad Mitzi is showing him the finer things in this life. One final note. this coming child will never squall. Cry maybe, but not squall! Final final note; what kind of drink do you want me to bring to you as you labor??
