    I think that's true, Shelby. A major risk for Obama right now is that he's whomping too much ass, too soon. If he peaks too early--and the latest Gallup tracking poll has him up 9 points following his preemptive victory lap abroad--then the media will turn on him. They'll get cowed by McCain and Republicans into harsher coverage out of a misplaced sense of "balance." It's what helped kill Gore in '00 and did in Dean in '04 (Kerry was just a horrible politician and couldn't campaign his way out of a wet paper bag).Obama's appearance on "Meet the Press" today exhibited some of this new-found hostility. However, when the best gotcha moment Tom Brokaw could come up with was to basically read all of David Brooks' column on air, then I think Obama can weather the storm.
