Tom Friedman is my new hero...

Tom Friedman is my new hero, and my new muse. You see [Tom recently sold a piece of "art" in New York for $24, 600][1]. The work was sold at Christie's and was described as "starting an old dry pen on a piece of paper." I have attached a picture of the point of focus for this masterpiece. ![][2] I know it may seem under whelming, but it is important to note that it was done on a 12 x 18 sheet of paper. I am sure, just like Monet's "Water Lilies", you can't fully appreciate Mr. Friedman's work unless you see it in its full grandeur. Upon discovery of the sale of this artwork I was depressed. You know how much money I have just thrown away in my life creating works of art like Mr. Friedman? I get nauseous just thinking about it. I must admit that my "pieces" were primitive in comparison to the work being highlighted today. I usually created mine using concentric circles, not the brilliant S-Curve seen in the aforementioned masterpiece that sold at Christie's. But I will not be discouraged. Not Me. ![][3] Like many artists other artists can inspire me, they become my muse. That is why I am unveiling my new Tom Friedman inspired work of art. [The Lawrence Art Center][4] and the [Spence Art museum][5] have yet to return my calls about displaying my work. I will unveil it here. I have entitled it "Unneeded office memo properly prepared to be "thrown" into a waste receptacle." Now if I can just get Christie's to put it up for auction: P.S. Some of you may know that Mr. Friedman sold feces on a pedestal in the same auction lot. I have not yet found inspiration from this. Sorry. Well, I knew he was a brilliant pundit. Who would have known that he was an accomplished artist as well?

I've been trying to figure this one out for awhile now. I'm not an art critic...but sometimes I see 'art' consisting of nothing more than a scribble (such as the example above) and wonder how I could market a seemingly simple piece. Oh yeah...we're all artists.

Here's my 'original' art concept...a dirty kleenex--framed. Yeah, I bet I could get high dollars for that...

I can't draw or paint, I wish I could. It is sad that people with real artistic talents struggle to sell their work, and Tom Friedman sells scribble. All I can figure is that:

    1. Some people have too much money
    2. Tom Friedman is or is associated with a marketing genius.

    3. All of the Above.
